Your Opinion: Conservation changes favored

Dear Editor:

This is in response to a recent letter in the opinion section of your newspaper regarding the recent bills filed by Sen. Brian Munzlinger, R-Williamstown, and his questioning of what I perceive and totally agree with in part about our state Conservation department and state Legislature and it's what I personally see as nothing more then blatant double taxation and money grabbing in the name of conservation.

One other very valid point that Sen. Munzlinger makes is that there should be a total number of eight separate regions represented on the State Conservation Commission.

So, I believe a thank you is in order to him for recognizing and bringing this to the table for consideration. I do strongly believe this is what Missouri needs.

In his letter, Mr. Babcock states that "HJR8 (Redmon), SJR1 and SB56 (Munzlinger) would completely destroy our Conservation Commission and gut the Department of Conservation" along with "Leave our conservation programs alone." So I ask Mr. Babcock and any other like-minded citizens that support the illusion that nothing is wrong with our Conservation Department and or its failed policies.

Why not change the status quo of unfair double taxation and select a few appointed biased commission members that care nothing about the well being of every region of our state? It is time to put an end to the greed and money wasting of our Department of Conservation. Their free ride needs to stop. To our Legislature, please support these bills and do right by Missouri. Thank you.
