Missouri lawmakers end first day of session with formal ball

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri lawmakers are ending the first day of the 2015 legislative session with a formal inaugural ball.

Legislators and their friends and family were announced one by one in the Capitol Rotunda Wednesday evening after the start of the session.

At least 300 attended. Many wore suits or ball gowns and danced to a live band.

Missouri House Chief Clerk Adam Crumbliss estimates that no more than $3,000 in state funds went toward the event. He says that money paid for flowers, additional security and cleaning.
