Firefighters douse Moniteau County blaze

Firefighters were called to extinguish a blaze inside a rural Moniteau County home early Thursday.

Units responded around 12:10 a.m. to a fire in a residence at 43192 South Creek Road, approximately 7 miles southwest of Russellville. Smoke was showing upon their arrival.

According to reports from the Russellville/Lohman Fire Protection District, the fire started in the basement around a wood stove.

It's believed the flue pipe came apart in the basement, and the home owner tried to fight the fire and suffered burns. He was taken to a Columbia hospital for treatment.

The house suffered major smoke and heat damage.
