For Shiela Pearre, chief accountant for Jefferson City's finance department, the job is always changing.

She must prepare financial reports, deal with business licensing, wastewater billing and payroll.

"There's never a dull moment," she said.

She could also say that about the job she had before coming to work at the city.

For 10 years, she worked for a furrier in the state of Washington.

"We dealt mostly with minks, but we also had business in Canada and that meant a wide variety of items," she said. "When you deal with two languages, it gets interesting."

Her job with the city allows Pearre a chance to deal with all levels of the city, from the mayor through every employee in each department.

"Nothing is the same," she said. "That's the challenge. You could be working on something one day, and it changes the next."

Pearre, who has been working for the city for five years, is a native of Central Missouri and came back to be close to family. She and her husband love to spend time with their two step-children.

"When I'm not working we love to get on our motorcycles and ride," she said. "If it's a good day, that's where you'll find us."
