Local man facing charges in assault

A Jefferson City man is facing multiple charges in connection with an assault that occurred Tuesday.

Keith Larry, 34, of 706 Jackson St., is charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm and two counts of first-degree burglary.

As of Wednesday, Larry was being held on $200,000 bond in the Cole County Jail.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows Larry came out of his apartment Tuesday morning to find his vehicle had been damaged overnight.

Larry assumed residents of an apartment in the 400 block of East Dunklin Street, which shares the same parking lot as Larry's residence, were responsible and went there to confront them.

He took with him an SKS rifle with 11 rounds of ammunition inside and kicked in the front door of the apartment.

When he confronted a woman inside the apartment, he grabbed her and pushed the rifle into her abdomen telling her he was "going to kill her."

Larry began to throw the woman around the residence. She was eventually able to break free and get to a neighbor's apartment to call for help.

Larry followed the woman into the other apartment and began to yell that he was "going to kill everyone."

He left after being told by the male occupant of the apartment to get out.

When officers got on the scene, they found Larry walking behind the East Dunklin property. Witnesses identified Larry as the perpetrator, and he was taken into custody.

Larry told investigators he did kick in the door of the woman's apartment, but denied any physical confrontation had taken place or that he was in possession of a weapon.

Officers later got a search warrant for Larry's residence and found the rifle used in the altercation under a mattress in a bedroom.
