Missouri nabs baseball, softball pitching awards

The Missouri Tigers had the top pitchers in the Southeastern Conference in both baseball and softball this week.

Junior Reggie McClain received the baseball SEC Pitcher of the Week honor for the second straight week. McClain threw a complete-game shutout of Sam Houston State on Friday.

McClain earned the honor last week after throwing eight innings of shutout ball in his first start of the season, a 1-0 defeat of Iona. McClain has yet to allow a walk or an extra-base hit this year. He is the first player to win consecutive SEC Pitcher of the Week awards since LSU's Aaron Nola in 2013.

No other SEC player has thrown a complete-game shutout this season, and McClain leads the conference in ERA, innngs pitched and wins.

In softball, freshman Paige Lowary earned the SEC Pitcher of the Week honor after picking up three wins in three days at the Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. She is now 5-0 on the year.

Lowary struck out 15 batters in the tournament in 142/3 innings and allowed just three earned runs.

Missouri softball last won the award in April 2014 when Tori Finucane was named SEC Pitcher of the Week.
