Girls Basketball: Class 3 District 9

ST. JAMES - Lexi Dickerson went 4-of-4 from the line in the final minute to propel the Eugene Lady Eagles to a 51-48 win against Blair Oaks on Monday, scoring the only upset on the first day of the Class 3 District 9 Tournament.

Fifth-seeded Eugene led the first-round game 47-43 before fourth-seeded Blair Oaks hit a basket with two minutes left in the game.

Chelsi Emerson then hit a 3-pointer with 1:10 left to give the Lady Falcons a 48-47 edge.

But after Dickerson hit a pair of free throws, Blair Oaks missed a shot and she hit two more. The Lady Falcons had a look at an open 3 with time running out that could have tied it, but it was off the mark.

The game was tied at 14 after one quarter, Eugene led 27-26 at halftime and Blair Oaks was up 36-35 after three periods.

Emerson paced Blair Oaks with 19 points. Carli Buschjost added 14 points for the Lady Falcons, who end their season with a record of 11-14.

Dickerson had a game-high 20 points for Eugene, while Katelyn Engelbrecht added 12.

The other Monday games were blowouts in favor of the higher-seeded team.

Top-seeded St. James ripped eighth-seeded Bourbon 86-22, second-seeded Fatima trounced seventh-seeded Steelville 61-29, and third-seeded Cuba bounced sixth-seeded Dixon 46-30.

Fatima jumped out to a 24-6 lead at the end of one quarter, led 43-14 at the half and brought a 55-18 lead into the fourth quarter. Morgan Brandt scored a team-high 19 points and Annie Bock added 13.

St. James, the No. 3-ranked team in Class 3, will take on Eugene at 6 p.m. Wednesday in one semifinal, while fifth-ranked Fatima (24-2) will face off with Cuba at 7:30 p.m.
