Boys Basketball: Class 3 District 9

ST. JAMES - A big second quarter led the Blair Oaks Falcons to a district tournament victory.

Blair Oaks outscored Dixon 23-6 in the second quarter Tuesday night on its way to a 70-47 victory against the Bulldogs in Class 3 District 9 action.

Dixon led 15-14 after one quarter before Blair Oaks surged to a 37-21 advantage at the break. The Falcons led 49-28 heading into the final period.

Owen Luebbering led three Falcons in double figures with 23 points. Kory Franks added 20, while Cody Alexander chipped in with 16.

Top-seeded Blair Oaks (18-8) will take on fifth-seeded Steelville in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday. Steelville hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds of Tuesday night's second first-round game to take a 51-48 decision against fourth-seeded St. James.

In the third game Tuesday night, second-seeded Eugene had five players score in double figures as the Eagles rolled to a 77-46 victory against the Cuba Wildcats.

Chase Dickerson led the attack with 17 points. Travis Kempker added 16 points for Eugene, which led 22-12 after one quarter and 36-23 at the half , while Tyler Kempker tossed in 14. Travis Rush chipped in with 12, while Carson Doerhoff totaled 10.

Jackson Mitchell had 14 points for Cuba.

Eugene (19-7) will face Fatima in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Third-seeded Fatima posted a 59-48 win against sixth-seeded Bourbon in the final game Tuesday night.
