Boys basketball: South Callaway 76, Eugene 71

EUGENE - The South Callaway Bulldogs outscored Eugene 13-8 in overtime and captured a 76-71 win Saturday night.

The teams will split the Show-Me Conference title after each finished with a 7-1 record.

The Bulldogs spoiled the Eagles' Homecoming game, which was a back-and-forth affair.

South Callaway led 13-12 after one quarter, but Eugene led 36-31 at halftime. South Callaway was up 54-49 after three quarters, but the Eagles forced overtime with a 14-9 scoring edge in the fourth quarter that tied it at 63.

Troy Hentges racked up 24 points and seven rebounds for the winners. Cory Hanger added 22 points for the Bulldogs, while Terry Miles had 20. Dax Helsel chipped in with nine assists.

Chase Dickerson paced Eugene with 19 points, while Travis Rush had 14 and Travis Kempker added 13.

South Callaway (21-2) will host the Class 3 District 8 Tournament this week. The Bulldogs are the third seed and they will open against sixth-seeded Hallsville at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Eugene is the second seed in the Class 3 District 9 Tournament at St. James. The Eagles' first game is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against seventh-seeded Cuba.
