SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Marian Gaborik scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period, and the Los Angeles Kings spoiled San Jose's outdoor party with a 2-1 victory over the Sharks on Saturday night.
Kyle Clifford also scored and Jonathan Quick made 31 saves as the Kings won their seventh straight game and dealt more heartbreak to their Northern California rivals after knocking San Jose out of the playoffs the past two seasons.
Gaborik silenced an enthusiastic crowd of 70,205 just over 4 minutes into the third period when he took the puck away from Brent Burns in the neutral zone and skated in before beating Antti Niemi with a shot from the top of the circle.
The Sharks were unable to get the equalizer against Quick.
Burns scored the lone goal for the Sharks, who have lost six of eight games to put their 10-season streak of playoff appearances in jeopardy. Niemi made 27 saves.
CAPITALS 3, ISLANDERS 2, SO
WASHINGTON (AP) - Evgeny Kuznetsov scored the lone goal in a shootout, Braden Holtby had 30 saves, and Washington beat the New York Islanders for its fourth straight victory.
After the first-place Islanders forced overtime by scoring with goalie Chad Johnson on the bench, Kuznetsov followed OT by beating Johnson on the first attempt of the shootout. Holtby subsequently denied all three New York attempts, the last by Ryan Strome.
The Islanders were 12-1 in games decided after regulation, including 7-1 in shootouts.
Eric Fehr put the Capitals up 2-1 at 14:26 of the third period. Matt Niskanen also scored for Washington, and Nickas Backstrom had an assist for his NHL-leading 64th point.
Strome put in a rebound from the left circle at 19:12 of the third period to tie it. Travis Hamonic scored early for the Islanders.
The teams split four games this season.
RED WINGS 7, STARS 6, OT
DALLAS (AP) - Niklas Kronwall scored 36 seconds into overtime and Detroit defeated Dallas after overcoming a pair of two-goal deficits in a wild third period.
Trevor Daley, Cody Eakin and Erik Cole scored in a 3-minute span of the second to give the Stars a 4-2 lead.
But then Jakub Kindl had two goals 45 seconds apart in the third to tie it 4-all in his return from the minors. It was the first two-goal outburst for Kindl in 242 career games.
Curtis McKenzie and Shawn Horcoff gave the Stars a 6-4 advantage before Justin Abdelkader's power-play goal and Pavel Datsyuk's second of the game tied the score again.
Horcoff's goal chased Jimmy Howard from the game after he gave up a season-high six goals. Jonas Gustavsson stopped two shots for the Red Wings.
Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen had 29 saves but allowed a season-high seven goals.
Datsyuk also had two assists. Kronwall, Abdelkader and Gustav Nyquist each had a goal and an assist.
Daley, Cole, Horcoff and Jamie Benn each had a goal and an assist for the Stars.
LIGHTNING 4, COYOTES 2
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Ondrej Palat scored twice, and Ryan Callahan had a goal and an assist to help Tampa Bay hold off Arizona.
Ben Bishop earned his 30th win of the season as the Lightning withstood a shaky finish to improve to 3-1 on their five-game trip and remain a point behind Atlantic Division-leading Montreal.
Michael Stone and Mark Arcobello scored for the Coyotes, and Mike Smith made 23 saves in Arizona's fifth straight loss overall and eighth in a row at home. Arizona, which had a franchise-record, nine-game road skid earlier this season, dropped to an NHL-worst 9-16-4 at home.
Steven Stamkos scored his 32nd goal into an empty net with 4.3 seconds left.
PENGUINS 4, BLUES 2
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Blake Comeau had two goals and an assist to lead Pittsburgh past St. Louis.
Patrick Hornqvist and Brandon Sutter also scored for the Penguins, who snapped a three-game skid. Sidney Crosby got his 40th assist on Hornqvist's goal.
Pittsburgh is 12-4-2 against Western Conference teams and 5-1-1 in its last seven road games.
Playing in place of starter Marc-Andre Fleury, backup goalie Thomas Greiss stopped 21 shots and had the Blues shut out until Dmitrij Jaskin scored with 5:27 left.
Ian Cole added a goal for St. Louis at 18:38. Vladimir Tarasenko assisted on both Blues goals.
FLYERS 3, PREDATORS 2, SO
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Wayne Simmonds had a goal in regulation and the shootout to lead Philadelphia past Nashville.
Ryan White also scored in regulation for the Flyers, who improved to 3-7 in shootouts this season.
Colin Wilson and Craig Smith scored in regulation for NHL-leading Nashville, which lost consecutive games for the first time this season.
Jakub Voracek opened the shootout by beating Pekka Rinne with a backhander. After Rob Zepp stopped Matt Cullen, Simmonds beat Rinne through the legs, then Zepp clinched the win by denying Craig Smith.
Nashville dropped to 5-5 in shootouts.
Predators coach Peter Laviolette made his first trip back to Philadelphia since being fired after beginning last season 0-3. Laviolette led Philadelphia to the Stanley Cup finals in 2010 and an Atlantic Division title the following season.
CANADIENS 3, BLUE JACKETS 1
MONTREAL (AP) - Max Pacioretty scored twice in the first period, and Montreal held off Columbus to snap a two-game skid.
Tomas Plekanec added an empty-net goal for the Canadiens, and Carey Price stopped 32 shots for his 33rd win of the season.
Nick Foligno scored for the Blue Jackets, who got 21 saves from Curtis McElhinney.
Montreal, which avoided its first three-game losing streak since early December, is 32-3-1 when its opponents score two goals or fewer.
DUCKS 2, OILERS 1
EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - Ryan Getzlaf scored the go-ahead goal with 7:13 remaining in the third period to lift Anaheim over Edmonton.
Francois Beauchemin also scored for the Ducks, who increased their comfortable lead in the Pacific Division. They have won back-to-back road games at Calgary and Edmonton after dropping five of six overall.
Teddy Purcell had the goal for the Oilers, who have lost four of five. Edmonton was playing its ninth game in 15 days.
Beauchemin scored with a power-play drive from the point just 45 seconds into the game.
Anaheim goalie John Gibson finished with 26 saves.
SENATORS 4, PANTHERS 1
OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) - Kyle Turris had a goal and two assists to lead Ottawa over Florida, giving the Senators consecutive wins for the first time in seven weeks.
Bobby Ryan, Erik Karlsson and Curtis Lazar also scored for Ottawa, and Andrew Hammond made 21 saves for his second win in two NHL starts.
Aleksander Barkov scored for the Panthers, who missed an opportunity to pass Boston in the race for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Roberto Luongo stopped 35 shots.
DEVILS 3, HURRICANES 1
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Devils defenseman Andy Greene capped a three-goal first period against Carolina with his first in 71 games.
Former Hurricane Tuomo Ruutu and Adam Henrique also scored for the Devils, who won their third straight and improved to 10-2-3 in their past 15 home games.
Rookie goalie Keith Kinkaid and Cory Schneider combined to make 31 saves. Kinkaid stopped 17 shots before leaving after he sustained a lower-body injury with 6:01 left in the second period.
Jeff Skinner scored with 6:04 remaining to deprive New Jersey of its third shutout.
MAPLE LEAFS 4, JETS 3, OT
TORONTO (AP) - James van Riemsdyk scored 3:47 into overtime to give Toronto a win over playoff-hopeful Winnipeg.
Van Riemsdyk beat Michael Hutchinson during a 2-on-1 rush for his 22nd goal of the season. Daniel Winnik had a goal and an assist, and Leo Komarov and Nazem Kadri also scored for the Maple Leafs.
Winnipeg earned one point to get to 71 in the crowded Western Conference playoff race. The Jets have a tenuous hold on a wild-card spot with San Jose, Minnesota and Los Angeles.
Jacob Trouba, Mark Scheifele and Michael Frolik scored for the Jets, who also got contributions from recent trade acquisitions Drew Stafford (two assists) and Tyler Myers (one assist). Hutchinson made 29 saves.
