COLUMBIA, Mo. - The two Helias Crusaders were eliminated Friday from the Class 3 state wrestling championships with losses in the second round of wrestlebacks.
At 126 pounds, sophomore Nick Gaines lost by fall in the second period to Trae Adams of DeSoto. Gaines, a two-time state qualifier, ends his season with a record of 28-12.
At 145, senior Jacob Schulte lost 9-5 in the quarterfinals to Josh Kinser of McDonald County to fall into the wrestlebacks. Schulte then lost by a second-period fall to Jason Box of Neosho. Schulte, making his second consecutive appearance at state, finishes with a record of 38-10.
The Crusaders finish with three team points in the tournament.
