Your Opinion: Quality of items deteriorates

Dear Editor:

This citizen has become quite weary of seeing the backs of business envelopes stating "Be a paperless society" that I can hardly wait to remove the bills or whatever and discard the envelopes. Sorry, but I would rather read the newspapers and other material that seems more important to me.

A paper trail is a powerful tool for the citizen (customer) to have in his possession. By having this written weapon at his disposal he can provide proof of what he has been told by the business, otherwise he could quite easily lose the argument.

Sometimes it is necessary to take notes that are found to be quite useful in the meeting of the minds.

Many questions have been asked as to where all the good products have gone. To begin with the long-standing stores that once existed in this town have disappeared from the scene. Really good quality clothing that was once carried in those stores obviously are no longer available.

Really good paper products have been so cheapened and cut down in size we can hardly recognize them but the high price is still there. When you use a pen or pencil you can hardly read the print it appears so faint. Even a magnifying glass or a small flashlight doesn't help. This citizen is uncertain about field glasses as mine were removed from my home when remodeled several years ago.

Not only in our own country have the products been cheapened but those coming to us from foreign countries are just as inferior.

This citizen received a catalog from a store uptown where I never trade but I did open it before pitching the booklet and noticed a similar item five or eight dollars more than the out-of-town product. And no taxes had been added to it or postage. Sometimes I am a very alert American-born citizen.
