Lincoln falls to No. 9 Southern Arkansas again

MAGNOLIA, Ark. - The Lincoln baseball team managed just three hits against the nation's ninth-ranked team in Division II and dropped an 8-4 decision to Southern Arkansas on Sunday.

Southern Arkansas got three runs in the bottom of the first inning and tacked on three more in the fourth to lead 6-0.

The Blue Tigers finally got on the board in the top of the fifth, pushing across a pair of runs. Back-to-back errors to start the inning put Kaleb Davis at second and Christian Bunch at third. An RBI groundout by B.J. Nesbitt scored Bunch and another RBI groundout by Zach Moore plated Davis.

Single runs by the Muleriders in the fifth and sixth put them up 8-2.

Lincoln got its final runs in the seventh. Dillon Walker rapped a two-out double and scored on a double by Nick Lovell, who then scored when Trevor Schnieders reached on an error. Each team had three errors in the contest.

The Muleriders ended up with 12 hits in the game.

Kolton Clark worked the first 3 2/3 innings and took the loss for the Blue Tigers. He gave up five runs, although only two of them were earned, on four hits and two walks. He struck out one.

Gus Goodnight followed and allowed three runs (two earned) in 2 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out one. Dalton Goings worked a hitless inning with one strikeout before Caleb Thomas pitched the final frame and allowed two hits.

Lincoln (0-3) returns to action this weekend when it opens the home portion of its schedule against Lindenwood. The Blue Tigers and Lions will play one game at 3 p.m. Friday, a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Saturday and a single game at noon Sunday.
