Osage wrestlers advance from Class 2 District 3

MONETT, Mo. - The School of the Osage Indians have two district champions among their five qualifiers for the Class 2 state tournament.

Chris Johnson at 132 pounds and Alex Weatherspoon at 285 both captured top honors Saturday in the Class 2 District 3 Tournament.

Johnson finished 3-0 with two falls. He won the title with a 6-1 decision against Kedric Brink of Monett. Weatherspoon also was 3-0, including a 7-5 overtime win against Angel Villalta of Monett for the title.

Also advancing for Osage are Hayden Carlson at 113, Bradley Russell at 152 and Michael Henley at 160.

Osage finished third in the final team standings with 110 points. Monett was first with 202.5, with Pleasant Hill second with 179.5.

The Eldon Mustangs, who did not have a state qualifier, finished 13th with 23 points.

The Class 2 state tournament begins at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mizzou Arena.
