Lincoln women take season series with SBU

BOLIVAR, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team defeated Southwest Baptist 61-48 on Saturday to complete a season sweep of the Bearcats.

Four Blue Tigers scored in double figures for the Blue Tigers. Kelsey Williams led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Kayton Cole with 14 points and four steals. Kate Frazier added 12 points and Hunter Yoakum had 10.

Lincoln held the Bearcats to 27.1-percent shooting in the game.

The Blue Tigers entered halftime up 30-17 on the heels of a 12-2 run. After the break, Lincoln stretched its lead to as many as 21 with 10 minutes to play.

Southwest Baptist later cut the gap to 10 thanks to a 15-4 run, but that was as close as the Bearcats would get.

The Blue Tigers, who beat SBU 70-61 on Jan. 24, shot 4-of-8 from behind the arc in the second half.

Lizzie Nessling tied Williams with a team-high nine rebounds.

Lincoln remains on the road for a game Wednesday at Missouri Western. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.

On the men's side, Southwest Baptist put four players in double digits and was too much for the Blue Tigers, who fell 89-66.

Menas Stephens led the Bearcats with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Southwest Baptist hit 14-of-19 3-point attempts (73.9 percent) and shot 58.2 percent from the floor.

For Lincoln, Joshua Buie scored a game-high 20 points, and Aaron Spudich and Malcolm McDonald each chipped in 14.

Lincoln led by four with 10:28 to go in the first half, but Southwest Baptist took a lead it wouldn't surrender with back-to-back 3s.

The Blue Tigers were without Victor Scott and Jeremy Jackson, who each missed the game due to a death in their respective families.

The Lincoln men also play Wednesday at Missouri Western, tipping off at 7:30 p.m.
