Sales tax receipts fall short in February

Jefferson City sales tax receipts fell short of projections in February, but a surplus from January receipts has kept the city above projections for the year to date.

February sales tax receipts, which reflect the December reporting period, came in below projections in all three categories.

The city's 1 percent general sales tax came in $62,393 short of projections in February receipts, with both the half-cent capital improvements tax and the half-cent parks sales tax coming in roughly $31,000 short of projections.

But because of a surplus in January, all three sales taxes are still above projections by at least $69,000.

The budget projections are based on actual receipts from the same month in 2014.
