For those who enjoy old-time hymns, Gospel bluegrass or fun music, the Calvary Road Trio debut concerts may offer fresh entertainment.

At 7 p.m. Feb. 20 and 21, Kevin Kohler, Sara June Rhoads and Brenda Tish-Haller will bring their faith and talents to the Calvary Baptist Church stage.

The trio's self-titled first CD is out and they hope to take their ministry to area churches, large and small, as well as other venues that come available.

The recording includes favorite hymns like "I Surrender All," "Blessed Assurance" and "Beulah Land." It also includes Christian contemporary covers like Bill Gaither's "Get All Excited," Mylon LeFevre's "Without Him" and Gene MacLellan's "Put Your Hand in the Hand."

Kohler first had the idea of such an adult music ministry six years ago, but the three agreed the timing wasn't right until May 2014.

In the meantime, Kohler overcame a time when he lost his hearing, Rhoads reared her children and Tish-Haller became the pianist for Calvary Baptist Church.

Kohler's tenor voice blends with Tish-Haller's alto and Rhoads' wide vocal range. They will travel with soundtracks and their own sound system.

All three grew up with the sacred music at home and at church.

"When we grew up, it was not just church on Sunday; it was a lifestyle," Rhoads said.

This is the first time for Rhoads to sing in a group and Kohler's first time to sing with women. For Tish-Haller, she's enjoying her first time singing with a group other than family.

"We've got a good blend of harmony and personality," Kohler said.

Kohler, a retired school administrator, has performed with a variety of secular and Gospel groups for decades.

Rhoads has opened concerts for many nationally-known Christian artists and performed at churches, theme parks and on television.

Tish-Haller has been pianist for churches since her childhood and looks forward to a new level of musical and ministry.

"I feel closer spiritually when I'm singing and playing," Tish-Haller said. "I want to give my all to him."

Calvary Road Trio hopes to bring a message of love and an hour of fun entertainment as they build their concert schedule.

"There's a lot of things people can do on any given night," Kohler said. "It's an honor when they choose to come listen to your music."
