JC man gets 15 year sentence in robbery case

A Jefferson City man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after a Cole County jury found him guilty of charges in connection with a robbery that occurred in June 2013.

Roy Dowdy, 23, was found guilty of first-degree robbery and armed criminal action.

As part of this same case, Dowdy earlier pleaded guilty to damage to jail property and escaping from custody.

Dowdy was charged with stealing $35 and an iPhone at gunpoint from a person who was pumping gas at Break Time, 627 Clark Ave.

Dowdy opened the victim's passenger side door and offered to sell him narcotics. The victim declined, but Dowdy refused to close the car door. When the victim had finished pumping gas, he attempted to drive away. Dowdy got into the car and pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the victim and demanded his property.

Dowdy was identified through surveillance footage at the store, and the victim identified him in a photo lineup.
