Annual Children's Concert is Tuesday at LU

The annual Children's Concert presented by Jefferson City Concert Association is at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mitchell Auditorium on the Lincoln University campus.

The program will feature a number of different works including numbers from "Peter and the Wolf." There will also be performances by Dancer's Alley.

The Symphony Orchestra will hold the popular "Music Zoo" before the performance. Children can play actual symphony instruments.

Don Otto, president of the Concert Association, said although this is billed as a Children's Concert, adults have just as much fun. He also said the music is not a downed version of any works. The participants play real masterpieces of music chosen because they entertain and teach at the same time.

Soloists will be featured highlighting different instruments in the first part of the program from Prokohev's "Peter and the Wolf." Otto will narrate a story which will link key instruments.

According to Otto, the purpose of events like these is to entertain and to inspire both children and adults to appreciate and learn more about classical music.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students. Children under 6 are free.

Tickets are available at www.theJCCA.org or at the door.
