Tigers bidding to end streak

Losers of eight straight, Missouri to host Texas A&M

The Missouri men's basketball team will try to snap its longest losing streak since the 1973-74 season when the Tigers host Texas A&M at 5 p.m. today (ESPNU-TV).

The Tigers are in the midst of an eight-game losing skid. The last time they did that was back when coach Kim Anderson was in his first season playing for the Tigers.

The most recent loss may have been the toughest so far for Missouri (7-15 overall, 1-8 Southeastern Conference), as the Tigers couldn't break the 50-point plateau in a 62-49 loss at Alabama.

Missouri had just 18 field goals in that loss, and assists by guard Keith Shamburger led to 11 of them. That assist total was one off his career high, which he set while playing for Hawaii in the 2013-14 season.

If there's any consolation for the Tigers, it's the fact they haven't been losing to nobodies. In fact, Missouri's schedule is currently ranked the fourth most difficult in the country according to Ken Pomeroy's latest online ratings.

Texas A&M (15-6, 6-3), meanwhile, comes into today's game having won six of its last seven, with the lone loss coming in its last time out, a game Wednesday at Mississippi.

Included in those six wins was a 62-50 win against Missouri in College Station, Texas. In that game, the Aggies overcame a 31-24 halftime deficit to beat the Tigers. Jalen Jones, a 6-foot-7 junior guard/forward, and Danuel House, a 6-7 junior guard, each had 16 points for the Aggies.

Wes Clark paced the Tigers with a game-high 18 points in that contest.

The Aggies outrebounded the Tigers 37-24 and made 15-of-20 free throws, compared to just 2-of-5 for Missouri. The teams shot an identical 20-of-47 from the field (43 percent) in the game.

Jones and House are tied for the team lead in scoring, as each averages 13.8 points per game. They are the only Aggies in double figures, although 6-5 junior guard Alex Caruso is close at 9.4 points per contest.

Jones is also the team's leading rebounder at 6.4 per contest and is second in steals (21) and first in blocks (14).

The Aggies are 10-1 at home this season, but are just 3-4 away from Reed Arena.

Missouri leads the all-time series with A&M 16-12, including five of the last seven meetings.
