Lincoln drops softball opener

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Lincoln softball team mananged just six hits in its season opener and dropped a 14-2 decision to Henderson State in a game shortened to five innings due to the run rule.

Competing in the Ronnie Hawkins Invitational hosted by Ouachita Baptist, Lincoln got its only runs in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run homer by Lauren Stamp.

Henderson State broke the game open with a seven-run second inning, and the Reddies added seven more in the fourth inning.

Sam Kircher had a single and a double for Lincoln and Jessica Wolken had a double.

Madison Ragar took the loss for the Blue Tigers, giving up seven earned runs on seven hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings of work. Stamp pitched the final 2 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs, although just one was earned, on five hits and two walks. The Blue Tigers committed five errors in the game.

Lincoln will resume play in the event at 10 a.m. today against the host school, and the Blue Tigers will also play Christian Brothers at 3 p.m.
