Lincoln women top Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Lincoln Blue Tigers women's basketball team took its recent winning ways on the road Wednesday night, defeating Lindenwood 61-47 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association action.

Lincoln, which has won four straight games, had won the first three of the streak at home.

Lindenwood led by as many as seven points in the first half before Lincoln came back to take a 27-25 advantage at the break. Lindenwood then scored the first five points of the second half to take a 30-27 lead before Lincoln went on a 9-0 run to take the lead for good.

Lincoln then slowly started to pull away, taking its first double-digit lead at 54-43 on a 3-pointer by Lizzie Nessling with 4:06 remaining. The Blue Tigers led by as many as 16 points in the final minute.

Nessling finished with a game-high 18 points for the Blue Tigers, including a 4-of-6 performance on 3-pointers. Kelsey Williams continued her run of strong games for Lincoln, finishing with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds. She also dished out seven assists.

Lincoln (10-9 overall, 5-8 MIAA) will play Saturday at Northwest Missouri State. Game time is 1:30 p.m.

Vanessa Zailo had 15 points for Lindenwood (9-11, 2-11). Bre Zanders, a former Helias Lady Crusader, pulled down two rebounds for Lindenwood in a reserve role.
