Local man gets 12 years in domestic assault case

A Jefferson City man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to charges in connection with assaulting three women in 2012 and 2014.

Michael Lutz, 33, pleaded guilty to first-degree domestic assault, two counts of second-degree domestic assault and one count of second-degree assault.

He will serve 12 years for the first-degree assault charge, seven years on both counts of second-degree domestic assault and seven years for the second-degree assault charge.

A charge of armed criminal action was dismissed.

Police reports show officers responded to the 900 block of Harding Avenue last March for an assault in progress involving a knife.

When officers arrived, they found two female victims who had obvious stab wounds requiring medical attention.

One victim, a 27-year-old Jefferson City female and the girlfriend of the suspect, had a serious stab/slash wound across her throat, and the other victim, a 44-year-old Jefferson City female, had a moderate to minor stab wound to her back.

Investigating officers determined that Lutz began accusing his girlfriend of stealing from him while he was incarcerated. The altercation began in another area of town, but escalated on Harding Avenue when Lutz threatened to cut the victim's throat.

The 44-year-old victim and a male attempted to intervene by striking Lutz. During the course of that struggle, Lutz cut the victim's throat and stabbed the other victim.

Lutz left in a vehicle after being struck a number of times, sought medical treatment for his injuries and was subsequently arrested.

During the investigation into this incident, another victim came forward and said Lutz assaulted her between March and June 2012. She had not come forward for fear of what Lutz could do to her, but after learning of the assault last March decided to come forward and help in prosecuting Lutz.
