Leonard Steinman is in the race once again, hoping to assist residents of Jefferson City as its next mayor.

A six-way race is set for the Jefferson City mayoral seat, with 3rd Ward Councilman Bob Scrivner, Steinman, Carrie Tergin, Edith Vogel, Roy Viessman and Richard S. Groner all hoping to win the April 7 election.

This is Steinman's second run for Jefferson City mayor, though he also has run for Cole County Western District commissioner, Missouri governor and the U.S. House of Representatives. Most recently, he ran for the 3rd U.S. Congressional District seat. Steinman said he is continuing to observe and study, but has attended various trade schools and other career-specific courses, including hotel, motel and bar management.

Steinman, a Vietnam War-era veteran, said he's truly lived life and knows what people need from their elected officials. He said his life experience is what makes him prepared to deal with any number of issues, from mental health to military issues. He said he is well-known in the community and in the Capitol, making it easier for him to forge, and keep, strong partnerships.

Steinman said he wants to provide assistance for people when needed and that's what the mayor needs to do.

When asked what issues were important to him in this race, Steinman said "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

In his spare time, Steinman said he likes to "irritate people." He noted that if he does not win the mayor's seat, he will run for president as a write-in candidate.
