Missouri wrestling team improves to 18-0 on season

COLUMBIA - Behind six bonus-points wins, the third-ranked Missouri wrestling team cruised to a 33-6 win against Northern Iowa on Saturday night at the Hearnes Center.

The dual victory improved the Tigers to 18-0 this season, tying the all-time Missouri single-season record.

Willie Miklus (184 pounds) highlighted the team's bonus-points wins, as he notched a pin in just 24 seconds. Drake Houdashelt (149) produced the other highlight win against the Panthers, posting a 17-2 technical fall win.

Alan Waters (125) set the tone immediately for the Tigers, as he tallied an impressive 10-1 major-decision win.

Zach Synon (133) and Lavion Mayes (141) followed with a 6-0 decision win and 12-4 major decision, respectively. Joey Lavallee (157) then won 2-0.

After the team dropped its first match of the night at 165, Johnny Eblen (174) got Missouri back on track with a 9-1 major decision over Curt Maas. After Miklus' win, J'Den Cox (197) rounded out the Tigers' scoring with a 16-4 major decision.

Missouri will travel to Buffalo on Friday and Eastern Michigan on Sunday as part of the team's final Mid-American Conference road trip of the season.

The Tigers' final home dual of the season is Feb. 15 against American.
