Learfield dedicates operations center to former chief engineer

Executives and employees of Learfield Communications, Inc., dedicated the technical operations area of its headquarters building in Jefferson City to the late Charlie Peters. Peters, who began his 30-year Learfield career in 1984, died Aug. 20, 2014, at age 53. Members of Peters' family attended the Jan. 29 dedication event.

The Charlie Peters Operations Center is the hub of Learfield's radio broadcasts nationwide, providing production, distribution and technical support for the company's 100 collegiate sports properties, according to a news release. In his role as Learfield's vice president of technical operations and chief engineer, Peters oversaw a department whose responsibilities changed dramatically during his career. During his 30-year tenure, Peters oversaw the transition to satellite distribution, construction of new studio facilities and migration to digital processing and transmission of audio and other content.

"Charlie was an integral part of our company, and from day one, he set the standard for loyalty and dedication," said Learfield President and CEO Greg Brown. "Charlie was highly skilled in his craft and was always a calming presence in what is often an intense broadcast environment. We will always remember Charlie's humble and enthusiastic spirit, and so it's with great admiration and fond remembrance that we dedicate our operations center in his name."

Peters was a Jefferson City native who graduated from Fatima High School in 1979. He is survived by Rhonda, his wife of 33 years; two sons and daughters; and their families.
