Lebanon holds off Blue Springs South in Holiday Hoops Invitational

The Lebanon Lady Jackets closed the second quarter on a 10-0 run Tuesday afternoon in their way to a 63-47 victory against the Blue Springs South Lady Jaguars in a loser's bracket semifinal of the State Farm Holiday Hoops Invitational at Rackers Fieldhouse.

Lebanon, which led 16-14 after one quarter, was up 18-17 before holding Eureka scoreless for the final 6:08 of the second quarter to take an 11-point advantage into halftime.

The team swapped points in the third quarter, which ended with Lebanon holding a 43-30 lead.

The Lady Jackets pulled away early in the fourth quarter, stretching their lead to as many as 28 at 63-35 with a little more than two minutes remaining. The Blue Springs South reserves outscored the Lebanon reserves 12-0 the rest of the way to account for the 16-point final margin.

Kelsey Winfrey, a 5-8 junior who gave a verbal commitment to Missouri as a sophomore, led the Lady Jackets with 19 points.

Ashtyn Phillipsheck paced Blue Springs South with nine points.

Lebanon will face Alton, Ill., at 4 p.m. today in the fifth-place game at 4 p.m. Blue Springs South will take on Eureka in the seventh-place contest at 2:30 p.m.
