This year's Christmas Heisinger Homes Tour is expanding its reach and featuring three properties in California, Mo.
The 23rd annual Heisinger Auxiliary Christmas Homes Tour will be held from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, with a reception from 3-6 p.m. at Heisinger Bluffs.
JoAnn Strobel, one of the event organizers, said this year's tour will feature three homes on the west side of Jefferson City, as well as three properties in California.
"This year we're doing something different," Strobel said.
One California landmark Strobel was particularly excited about showing is the Eitzen mansion. Built in 1898 by Charles A. Eitzen, the home features nine fireplaces and 21 rooms, plus the carriage house, and was restored by owners Pam and Rich Green.
"It's a beautiful home, inside and out," Strobel said. "The woodwork has never been touched by paint ... it's really pretty."
The tour also will feature St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Finke Theatre, both in California. Strobel said the tour has been trying to feature a church each year and it was the selection of St. Paul's that led organizers to look at featuring more California landmarks, especially the nearby Eitzen mansion.
"I thought "well here's the (Eitzen) mansion and a lot of people have never been there,'" Strobel said. "It's something to see."
The reception at Heisinger Bluffs will include food, music and a drawing for a quilt. Tour tickets are $10 and Strobel noted no one under the age of 10 will be permitted to take the tour.
Tickets will be available the morning of the tour at Heisinger Bluffs, starting at 8 a.m., and also are available at Sweet Buy & Buy in California. In Jefferson City, tickets are available at Uniquely Rose, Calvary's Gift, Marshall and Company Salon, Super Hair, Salon Va'lise, The Schaefer House and Major Interiors.
