State charitable campaign tops $1 million - again

For the 12th year in a row, Missouri government employees have pledged more than $1 million for 885 different charities.

The state Office of Administration announced Tuesday that state employees this year donated more than $1,089,249 in the annual Missouri State Employee Charitable Campaign, or MSECC.

That brings the total for the campaign's 31 years to more than $28 million - with donations exceeding $1 million in 15 of the campaign's 31 years.

"The kindness and generosity shown year after year by Missouri state employees and their families, and the impact the annual charitable campaign has on organizations across the state, is truly touching," OA Commissioner Doug Nelson said, in a news release.

"To exceed the $1 million mark every year for more than a decade is a true testament to the generosity of state employees and will unquestionably make an impact on those in need across Missouri."

This year's results in the "Helping Others Rise Above" campaign also was the highest total since 2009 and the impact of the recession.

The MSECC is an annual fundraising effort, organized by the Office of Administration, providing state employees and retirees with the opportunity to donate to their favorite charitable organizations through payroll deductions or one-time gifts.
