The art community in The Village Square keeps growing.

The Village Art Studio, located in Jefferson City at 1507 E. McCarty St., expanded to a second studio in early November to accommodate new classes.

The studio has offered classes for adults and children in canvas painting, mosaics, pastels, oil and acrylics, weaving, papermaking, clay and more since retired art teachers Ann DeRosier, Charlotte Middleton and Cindy Schnieders opened it in January 2014.

The Village Art Studio accompanies next-door art co-op The Art Bazaar.

Studio 2 is located in Suite 60 of The Village Square, where Middleton and Schnieders teach painting and mixed-media classes. Studio 1 remains in Suite 40, where DeRosier teaches ceramics and new artist Andrea Cleeton teaches fused glass, which is new to The Village Art Studio.

"It just seemed like there wasn't anybody offering that in Jefferson City," Cleeton said. "It just seemed like a good mix."

A retired state social worker, Cleeton began doing fused glass several years ago. Her classes teach students how to cut glass, arrange it and fuse it to one piece, forming decorative items like bowls, dishes, suncatchers and more.

This month's fused-glass classes help students create Christmas ornaments.

Cleeton is involved in the "Fountain of Hope" project in downtown Jefferson City, for which she will be creating the glass tiles decorating the wall between Saffees and the Inglish & Monaco Law Firm, memorializing loved ones lost to cancer. She also has a piece on display at Capital Region Medical Center's new expansion.

The Village Art Studio's calendar of classes is listed on its new website, www.thevillageartstudio.com.
