Helias softball wins Battle Tourney

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Helias Lady Crusaders captured the title in the Battle Tournament with a pair of victories Saturday.

Helias blanked South Callaway 10-0 in the semifinals. Lindsey Steinbeck went the distance in the victory, scattering three hits and a walk in the six-inning contest. She struck out two. Steinbeck also had two hits and three RBI at the plate.

Grace Dittmer had four hits and an RBI for the Lady Crusaders. Kaylie LeCuru and Abby Masek also had two hits. LeCuru scored three times, while Masek drove in a pair of runs. Jordyn Nappier totaled three RBI, while Lauren Morrow belted a solo home run.

Helias then edged Liberty North 5-4 in the title game.

Steinbeck was the complete-game winner, giving up eight hits and a walk while striking out one.

Morrow had a two-run home run to lead the offense. Julie Harris, Abbi Pringer and Dittmer all had two hits.

Dittmer, Morrow and Steinbeck were named to the all-tournament team.

Helias started the event by going 2-1 in pool play Friday.

The Lady Crusaders started things with an 11-2 win against Eldon.

Steinbeck scattered five hits in four innings of work and struck out one to get the win. Allie Ashcraft pitched the final three innings and allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one.

At the plate, Dittmer had a grand-slam home run and a single while driving in five total runs. Riley Bond had three hits and two RBI, while Masek, LeCuru and Pringer had two hits apiece.

Helias then carved out a 6-4 win against Battle.

Steinbeck got the complete-game win while scattering eight hits in seven innings. Morrow had a two-run homer and Pringer had two hits.

The Lady Crusaders closed pool play with a 12-2 loss to Washington. Morrow and Claire Ludwig had RBI singles.

Helias is back in action Wednesday against Jefferson City at Duensing Field. The JV game will start at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity contest around 6:30 p.m.
