Jays now No. 5 in football rankings

The Jefferson City Jays moved up one spot in the state football rankings released this morning.

Jefferson City (1-0) is now No. 5 in Class 6 in voting by 15 media members from around the state after defeating McCluer North 64-34 last Friday in Florissant.

The Jays will take on top-ranked C.B.C. on Friday in St. Louis.

The Helias Crusaders (0-1) dropped four spots to No. 10 in Class 4. Helias, which opened the season last Friday with a 31-9 loss at Nixa, will play Friday at Hannibal. Hannibal is receiving votes in Class 4.

The Blair Oaks Falcons (1-0) remain No. 4 in Class 3 after defeating Moberly 42-18 to open the season last Friday. Blair Oaks will open its home slate this Friday against Owensville.

Eldon (1-0) and California (0-1) are receiving votes in Class 3. Eldon, which opened with a 42-6 win against Confluence Prep Academy will play Saturday at Hogan Prep. California will play Friday at Mexico after dropping a 9-6 decision to Boonville to start the season.

South Callaway (1-0) wraps up the area teams in the rankings, staying at No. 7 in Class 2 after a 45-7 win at Putnam County. South Callaway will play Friday at Southern Boone.
