One in custody in connection with several vehicle theft cases in JC

Since the beginning of August, Jefferson City police have been investigating a number of vehicle break-in's throughout the Jefferson City area.

Detectives were assigned the case, and began to gather information and intelligence to develop a possible suspect.

Typically, the thefts took place from parked vehicles at fitness facilities or nature/walking trail areas.

Those vehicles that had valuables such as purses locked within, but exposed to view were targeted. The suspect broke vehicle windows to get the purse/valuables then leave the area.

Within the past week, JCPD detectives developed credible information that Robert L. Keating, 43, of Jefferson City, was the primary suspect in the case.

Utilizing a number of resources and investigative leads, detectives were able to determine that Keating was in the Boone County area Thursday night near Finger Lakes State Park. Boone County authorities located Keating in a vehicle and a pursuit began, ultimately leading to Keating's arrest.

Keating was taken into custody on a number of Jefferson City theft charges, as well as similar charges pending in Boone County and other jurisdictions. As of Friday he was being held in the Boone County Jail on a no bond Cole County warrant for the series of Jefferson City thefts.

JCPD detectives are still investigating the case, which includes locating other victims and stolen items.
