GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Tiger Woods signed up for his first Wyndham Championship knowing a win would definitively keep his season from ending. He's halfway there.
Woods shot a 5-under 65 on Friday to share the second-round lead with rookie Tom Hoge.
Woods and Hoge were at 11-under 129 at Sedgefield Country Club. Hoge shot a 67.
The sport's biggest name put himself in prime position to contend for his first victory in more than two years, one that would send him into the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Woods followed his best round since 2013 - a first-day 64 - with one almost as good.
He made his big move up the leaderboard on the back nine, with birdies on Nos. 12 and 13 and an eagle on the par-5 15th that gave him a share of the lead.
Davis Love III and Chad Campbell were a stroke back. Campbell shot a 65, and the 51-year-old Love had a 66. Brandt Snedeker matched the tournament record with a 61 that put him in a group of six players two strokes behind Woods and Hoge.
CANADIAN PACIFIC WOMEN'S OPEN
COQUITLAM, British Columbia (AP) - Candie Kung birdied four of her final six holes to match the course record with an 8-under 64 and take the second-round lead in the Canadian Pacific Women's Open.
The 34-year-old Taiwanese player had an 11-under 133 total at Vancouver Golf Club. Playing the back nine first, she birdied the first two holes and eagled the par-5 13th. The four-time LPGA Tour winner added birdies on Nos. 4 and 6-8.
Two-time champion Lydia Ko and first-round leader Karine Icher of France were tied for second. The 18-year-old Ko had a 68, and Icher followed her opening 65 with a 70.
Ko won in 2012 at Vancouver Golf Club at 15 years, 4 months to become the LPGA Tour's youngest winner and fifth amateur champion. The New Zealander successfully defended her title in 2013 as an amateur in Edmonton, Alberta. She has two victories this year.
Canadian teen Brooke Henderson, coming off a victory Sunday in the Portland Classic, had a 75 to drop into a tie for 58th at 1 over.
U.S. AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (AP) - NCAA champion Bryson DeChambeau beat Ireland's Paul Dunne 3 and 2 at Olympia Fields to advance to the U.S. Amateur semifinals.
DeChambeau, the SMU player from Clovis, California, will face Southern California sophomore Sean Crocker of Westlake Village, California. Crocker beat Charleston Southern junior Austin James of Canada 2 up.
In the other quarterfinals, Virginia junior Derek Bard of New Hartford, New York, rallied to beat Arizona State senior Jon Rahm of Spain 1 up, and Japan's Kenta Konishi edged Baylor transfer Matthew Perrine of Austin, Texas, 1 up.
DeChambeau won the par-4 11th and 13th with birdies to take a 3-up lead and halved the next three to end the match. Dunne, coming off his senior season at UAB, tied for 30th in the British Open last month after sharing the 54-hole lead.
BOEING CLASSIC
SNOQUALMIE, Wash. (AP) - Larry Mize birdied the par-5 18th hole for a 5-under 67 and a two-stroke lead over Fred Couples and four others after the first round of the Champions Tour's Boeing Classic.
The 56-year-old Mize had a bogey-free round at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge. The 1987 Masters champion won the 2010 Montreal Championship for his lone title on the 50-and-over tour.
Couples, trying to win his hometown event for the first time, was tied for second at 69 with Billy Andrade, Carlos Franco, Jeff Freeman and Chien Soon Lu.
Couples, from Seattle, played in the featured group with Bernhard Langer and Jeff Maggert, coming off his third victory of the season two weeks ago in Alberta. Couples, who shot a 59 Wednesday in a warmup round at the nearby Broadmoor Country Club, birdied Nos. 10, 11 and 15 and closed with three pars.
Langer shot a 70, and Maggert had a 72. Defending champion Scott Dunlap opened with a 74.
MADE IN DENMARK
AALBORG, Denmark (AP) - England's David Horsey shot a 4-under 67 to increase his lead to three strokes in the European Tour's Made in Denmark tournament.
Horsey had a 12-under 130 total at Himmerland. Australia's Richard Green (65) and England's John Parry (67) were tied for second.
