Freeburg man pleads guilty in fatal boating accident

A Freeburg man has pleaded guilty to a fatal boating accident in July 2014.

Daniel Berhorst, 30, was charged with boating while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. He must pay a $300 fine along with court costs.

Berhorst crashed head-on with another boat, killing two people while on the Gasconade River in Osage County.

Mary Talken, 25, Jefferson City, and Larry Hennier, 48, Rich Fountain, were killed while riding in a boat that was struck by Berhorst, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol report. The report also said the accident occurred while the boats were traveling through a narrow passage on the river.

"The reconstruction and area where the accident occurred showed the vision of both boaters was obstructed and the families of the deceased did not want me to file assault or manslaughter charges, so I will not be filing those," said Osage County Prosecutor Amanda Grellner.
