Your Opinion: Hypocrisy of the "pro-life' movement

Dear Editor:

The Daily Kos ran a short story on July 31 that quoted a Catholic nun.

The nun is Sister Joan Chittister, O.S.B. The quote is as follows: "In one simple quote, Sister Joan Chittister, O.S.B. sums up the hypocrisy in the "pro-life' movement: "I do not believe that just because you're opposed to abortion, that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don't? Because you don't want any tax money to go there. That's not pro-life. That's pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is.'"

The article went on to say that "the goals of these hypocrites seem to be more about controlling women's bodies and women's futures."

It has long been my personal opinion that legislators like to get people distracted with the subject of abortion, when they really should be talking about jobs, campaign finance reform, how to save Social Security and Medicare, illegal immigrants, how to defeat ISIS, etc.

I guess as long as people are ranting about abortion, legislators don't have to tell citizens what they are going to do about the important issues, if anything, once they are in office. I do agree with Sister Chittister.
