Your Opinion: Cuba, quakes and paving trail

Dear Editor:

None of us can lay claim to being a perfect human being but it is believed that most Americans lead pretty good lives and are not deceptive in their dealings and friendships with others. To lie, cheat and steal do not appear in the make-up of most everyday citizens.

I do take issue with the recent article in our newspaper about the struggling of Puerto Ricans in Florida as I recall how and why this came about. The article conveniently left out what happened in this fiasco. Castro released the convicts (his own people serving time for the crimes they committed) from the jails and/or prisons, thus forcing them to escape from Cuba at their own risk. This was the beginning of the influx of non-desirable convicts into our country.

Many of these Cuban prisoners drowned by trying to sail across the water into Florida; others who tried to cross by boat perished as well. Most survived reaching our country and forming their own community in central Florida where their population now numbers over five million. The island of Puerto Rico consists of less than 3.4 million, whereas Florida has two million more. This is what took place and happened all without passports.

And of all things, the Obama regime is giving its approval to renew ties with Cuba with whom we cut our ties sometime ago. This tops everything.

Being only a female, this citizen believes our country has begun its slide down a slippery slope and we can only hope that this current administration with its lack of good leadership and with the likes of the Clintons will be gone from the scene and the coffers of the American people.

By the way, we surely are award of the New Madrid fault that has reared its ugly groundwork twice of which I am aware. With all these heavy transportation trucks screaming down our highways all hours of the day and night, it is highly possible we could be hit with other problems with cracks the roadways already happening. I mentioned this possibility in an earlier letter to the editor.

With regard to the idea presented by a fellow by the name of Mudd through the Chamber of Commerce, the idea presented by this real estate individual should be nixed in the bud; it certainly is not feasible. I have seen what can happen when a geologic fault hits and it can be a horrific experience. A concrete trail would be a disaster ready to happen. And if it hits hard enough many people can be killed. You can't even hear it but you can see it ripping through the concrete after it has passed through. And with all the flooding of the river why spend the time and money on such an outlandish project.

Don't put peoples' lives in danger.
