Your Opinion: The Bible, court and marriage

Dear Editor:

There is an old adage that you should never wrestle with a pig! The only thing that happens is that you get dirty and the pig loves it but here goes. In a recent letter published July 24 the writer stated in response to another writer, "The Abrahamic faiths (Christianity, Islam and Judaism) all define "marriage" as a bond between a man and a woman. No, Mr. Johnson, all three religions either allow polygamy, or have sects that allow polygamy."

The KJV Bible states in Matthew 19: 3-6, "The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away (divorce) his wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female. And said, for this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh. Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder."

Throughout the Old and New Testament the teaching is that God originated marriage between one man and one woman, for one lifetime. Just because some violate this principal, doesn't mean that the whole of that particular religion agrees with those that chose to violate what God has set forth in His word. By the way, it is not my Bible, but it is God's inerrant word, the KJV Bible.

SCOTUS may be the highest court in the land, but that doesn't mean that they are the "smartest" in the land! After all weren't they the "bright" individuals that determined that a black person could only count as two thirds of a person for the census? Not too bright if you ask me.

I know that times have changed and many people have changed over time, but one of the things that hasn't changed has been God's word as relayed to us in the KJV Bible.

Whatever SCOTUS and the country decide to do with various issues is sometimes totally different than what the KJV Bible teaches us how we should behave. The Bible teaches about marriage, but we in our "superior wisdom" have determined that we know better and can be "married" many different times to as many things as we wish.
