Your Opinion: To the anti-choice community

Dear Editor:

Poor Jay Barnes is so emotionally overwrought I think he needs to breathe into a paper bag. In his hyperbolic slandering of Planned Parenthood, he called for legislation prohibiting "any health care provider from operating in this state if it has any relationship with an organization convicted of illegally harvesting or trafficking in human body parts." If that isn't already illegal, it's more evidence that our Legislature isn't doing its job!

Fetal tissue donation authorized by a woman undergoing an abortion is not illegal and enables research that benefits society at large. No selling of any tissue has occurred; Planned Parenthood is only reimbursed for the costs they incur, such as collecting and shipping.

The anti-choice community should get a grip. Planned Parenthood affiliates in Missouri do not even participate in fetal tissue donation programs, so it is clear that Rep. Barnes just wants to fire up the public to gain momentum in his efforts to rob women of agency over our bodies and our lives.
