Helias tennis takes second at Bruin Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Helias boys tennis team finished second Wednesday to defending state champion Rock Bridge at the Bruin Invitational, edging out Park Hill and Sedalia Smith-Cotton.

The Crusaders began by defeating Smith-Cotton 3-1.

T.J. Hagenhoff fell in singles play - 3-5, 1-4 - but Ryan Pollock picked up a 4-2, 4-0 win. In doubles, Klint Braun and Tristan Grawe (4-1, 4-2) and Dane Haugen and Ben Mitan (4-1, 4-0) each won their matches. Dylan Grawe and Dalton Buschjost also won a one-set match 6-4.

Against Rock Bridge, Helias fell 0-4. Hagenhoff lost in a 5-10 tiebreak after splitting the first two sets 2-4 and 4-2. Pollock fell 0-4, 0-4; Braun and Tristan Grawe fell 1-4, 1-4; Dylan Grawe and Buschjost lost 1-4, 0-4; and Haugen and Mitan fell 0-4 in a one-set defeat.

The Crusaders rebounded by defeating Park Hill 3-1. Braun fell 1-4, 2-4; Buschjost won 4-1, 4-1; Hagenhoff and Pollock won 2-4, 4-1, 10-4; and Dylan Grawe and Tristan Grawe won 4-2, 3-5, 10-5.

Mitan also played a singles match against Smith-Cotton in which he won 6-4, as did Haugen, who won 6-1.

Helias hosts Rolla today.
