Your Opinion: Committed educators deserve support

Dear Editor:

The youngest of our three children will graduate from Jefferson City High School next month. We have had at least one child in the Jefferson City Public School System since 1995. They have been well served by competent and enthusiastic teachers, administrators and coaches. Our two oldest children were well prepared for college as is our graduating senior.

Some in our community believe that JCPS is somehow broken and not delivering a high quality educational experience. Nothing could be further from the truth. I am concerned that this negativism is trickling down to JCPS students and parents, causing them to believe they are not getting a first class education. The future of our community is in the hands of many that will pass through our school system.

Thank you to all the great people at Belair Elementary, Thomas Jefferson Middle School and Jefferson City High School for playing a key role in preparing our children for adulthood. Thank you to the members of the school board, past and present, who have taken time away from their families and jobs to make Jefferson City even a better place to live.

It is easy to throw bombs. How about we all get behind the Board of Education, administration and the teachers and give them a chance to make public education in Cole County even better?
