Missouri softball falls to LSU

COLUMBIA - The 15th-ranked Missouri softball team fell short of sweeping No. 3 LSU, falling 9-0 in five innings Monday.

The loss ended Missouri's 10-game win streak, which included two wins against LSU to open the series.

LSU, which scored just two runs in each of the series' first two games, scored five runs in the third inning and four in the fifth to bury Missouri.

Eight LSU players accounted for nine hits. Sandra Simmons led all players with three RBI.

Paige Lowary (16-4) took the loss for Missouri, going four innings and allowing eight earned runs on seven hits and three walks. She struck out three and hit one batter. Cheyenne pitched one inning, allowing an unearned run on two hits and striking out one.

Carley Hoover threw all four innings for LSU, allowing just four hits and a walk to go with four strikeouts. Hoover's shutout was the first against Missouri since February.

Missouri, which hadn't lost since April 11 against Mississippi State, hosts Northern Iowa on Wednesday.
