BALTIMORE (AP) - David Lough hit a game-ending homer in the 10th inning to cap a two-run rally against Koji Uehara, and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox 5-4 Saturday night to end a five-game losing streak.
A crowd of 36,757 showed up for this matchup of AL East foes. Outside the stadium, thousands gathered to protest the death of Freddie Gray, who died in police custody after suffering an unexplained spinal injury.
Several helicopters circled Camden Yards as some of the protesters threw cans and plastic bottles in the direction of police officers. Inside the ballpark, people watched the protesters gather.
In the middle of the ninth inning, after the Red Sox extended a game the Orioles seemingly had in hand, the public address announcer told the fans that the mayor and city officials requested no one leave the ballpark because of "ongoing public safety issues."
By the bottom of the 10th, the restriction on departing the stadium had been lifted. But fans were warned against traveling in certain parts of the city.
Brian Matusz (1-2) got the win. Uehara (1-1) recorded just one out and was charged with two runs and two hits.
CARDINALS 5, BREWERS 3
MILWAUKEE (AP) - St. Louis lost ace Adam Wainwright to an ankle injury, and then got a boost from Mitch Harris.
Wainwright was helped from the field by a trainer after injuring his left ankle while stumbling out of the batter's box on his popup to first leading off the fifth inning. He allowed three hits in four shutout innings.
The 29-year-old Harris then tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in his major league debut after serving five years of active duty in the U.S. Navy following his graduation from the Naval Academy.
Matt Holliday hit a three-run drive in the seventh for St. Louis, which has won four in a row. Matt Belisle (1-0) got five outs for the win and Seth Maness pitched 1 1/3 innings for his first save.
Milwaukee right-hander Wily Peralta (0-3) allowed seven hits in six innings in his third consecutive loss.
METS 8, YANKEES 2
NEW YORK (AP) - Matt Harvey finished one out shy of a complete game, earning his first win against the team he rooted for growing up and leading the New York Mets to an 8-2 victory Saturday over the crosstown Yankees.
Kevin Plawecki hit his first major league home run and drove in three runs, and Lucas Duda and Eric Campbell also connected off an ineffective CC Sabathia (0-4). Juan Lagares went 4 for 4 with an RBI triple.
Harvey (4-0) allowed two runs and five hits as the Mets kept pace with the 1986 team for best start in franchise history at 14-4.
Mark Teixeira had three hits, including his eighth homer for the Yankees. Sabathia (0-4) was charged with seven runs and nine hits in five-plus innings.
DODGERS 11, PADRES 8
SAN DIEGO (AP) - Adrian Gonzalez hit his sixth home run against San Diego this year, a three-run shot, and Andre Ethier, Howie Kendrick and Juan Uribe each had a two-run drive for Los Angeles.
Gonzalez leads the NL with seven homers and 18 RBIs. Brandon McCarthy (3-0) pitched five-plus innings before departing with right elbow tightness.
San Diego's Justin Upton homered twice and drove in five runs. Wil Myers hit his first career leadoff homer.
Ian Kennedy (0-1), who was activated from the 15-day disabled list earlier Saturday, allowed eight hits and eight runs in 4 1/3 innings.
San Diego has lost four straight.
MARLINS 8, NATIONALS 0
MIAMI (AP) - Tom Koehler outpitched Stephen Strasburg, Giancarlo Stanton homered and the revitalized Marlins earned their fourth win in a row.
Defending NL East champion Washington (7-11) endured its fourth consecutive defeat and fell into a tie for third place with the Marlins, who have put together their winning streak after a 3-11 start.
Stanton had three hits, including his fifth homer in nine games, and drove in two runs.
Strasburg (1-2) allowed eight hits and four runs in six innings. Opponents are batting .317 against him, and his ERA rose to 4.88.
Koehler (2-2) gave up six hits in 7 1/3 innings. Two relievers completed Miami's first shutout of the year.
BRAVES 5, PHILLIES 2
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Andrelton Simmons led off the seventh with a homer, sparking a rally for Atlanta.
The Braves scored three runs in the seventh and chased David Buchanan (0-4) while snapping a four-game losing streak. Chris Johnson had an RBI single and Eric Young Jr. delivered a go-ahead double that lifted Atlanta to a 3-2 lead. The Braves added two more in the eighth.
Jason Grilli worked a scoreless ninth for his seventh save.
Shelby Miller (3-0) allowed two runs and three hits over six innings in his third straight win.
Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer for the Phillies.
ANGELS 4, RANGERS 1
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - C.J. Cron hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the sixth inning, leading the Angels' rally to their third straight victory.
Albert Pujols tied it with a bases-loaded single for the Angels, who scored three runs in the sixth despite having two runners thrown out at the plate.
Pujols also drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh as Los Angeles climbed back to .500. Vinny Pestano (1-0) got the win, and Huston Street saved his third consecutive game for the Angels.
Colby Lewis (1-2) was charged with two runs and four hits in five-plus innings as the Rangers lost for the fifth time in six games.
TIGERS 4, INDIANS 1
DETROIT (AP) - Victor Martinez drove in three runs, helping Alfredo Simon and the Tigers get the win.
Detroit slugger Miguel Cabrera drew four walks in a game for the first time in his career, three of them intentional. Earlier this season, the two-time AL MVP went 11 for 14 with six RBIs in a three-game series at Cleveland.
Simon (4-0) gave up one run and six hits in 6 2/3 innings. Joakim Soria pitched a perfect ninth for his sixth save.
Ian Kinsler drove in the other run for the Tigers and Rajai Davis stole three bases.
Cleveland's T.J. House (0-3) gave up three runs and four hits in three innings. He started in place of Trevor Bauer, who was scratched because of an illness.
ASTROS 9, ATHLETICS 3
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Houston star Jose Altuve hit a three-run homer and extended his hitting streak against Oakland to 28 games.
Jed Lowrie drove in two runs and George Springer homered for the Astros (10-7), who have won six of seven and are off to their best start since winning 12 of 17 games to open the 2006 season.
Scott Feldman (2-2) allowed three runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings to get the win.
Oakland's Kendall Graveman (1-2) allowed six runs in 4 2/3 innings. The A's (8-11) have lost three straight to fall three games under .500 for the first time since July 2012.
PIRATES 2, DIAMONDBACKS 1
PHOENIX (AP) - Starling Marte singled home Neil Walker with two outs in the ninth inning, helping Pittsburgh to its fourth consecutive win.
Walker doubled to the center-field wall against Addison Reed (0-1) before Marte hit a grounder past diving shortstop Cliff Pennington.
Tony Watson (1-1) pitched out of trouble in the eighth to earn the win. Mark Melancon worked the ninth for his fifth save.
GIANTS 5, ROCKIES 4, 11 INNINGS
DENVER (AP) - Nori Aoki scored from third on Joe Panik's bunt down the first base line in the 11th inning, lifting San Francisco to the victory.
Aoki reached on a leadoff walk from Brooks Brown (0-1) and was sacrificed to second. Angel Pagan followed with a single to center, but Drew Stubbs' strong throw forced Aoki to hold up. Panik then had a well-placed bunt down the line that allowed Aoki to break for the plate, and he slid in just ahead of the throw home.
Justin Maxwell and Andrew Susac homered for San Francisco. Jean Machi (1-0) pitched 1 2-3 scoreless innings for the win.
Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez went deep for the Rockies.
TWINS 8, MARINERS 5
SEATTLE (AP) - Eduardo Escobar hit a solo home run and six other Twins drove in at least one run.
Eduardo Nunez had two hits and two RBIs for Minnesota, which took advantage of three Mariners errors and two wild pitches.
Austin Jackson hit a two-run homer for Seattle in the seventh. Nelson Cruz also drove in two runs.
Mariners left-hander James Paxton (0-2) was charged with four runs, one earned, and five hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Tim Stauffer (1-0) earned the win and Glen Perkins worked the ninth for his fourth save.
RAYS 4, BLUE JAYS 2
ST. PETERBURG, Fla. (AP) - Tim Beckham hit a tiebreaking double during Tampa Bay's three-run eighth inning, and the Rays won their fourth straight game.
James Loney tied it at 2 with a pinch-hit RBI double before Beckham's hit off Miguel Castro gave Tampa Bay a 4-2 advantage.
Ernesto Frieri (1-1) struck out all three batters he faced for the win. Brad Boxberger pitched the ninth for his fifth save.
Toronto's Brett Cecil (1-2) faced one batter, giving up a two-out single to David DeJesus.
