Jays win, Falcons split in freshman-sophomore baseball

WARDSVILLE, Mo. - The Jefferson City High School freshman-sophomore team defeated Blair Oaks 7-1 in the Blair Oaks C Team Baseball Tournament on Friday. The Falcons also defeated Southern Boone 6-2.

Tucker Jett was the winning pitcher for the Jays, and Cole Ahrens had three hits, and Payton Bodenstab had two.

Steven Drake took the loss for the Falcons, throwing three innings and allowing five hits and six runs - two earned. He walked one and struck out three. Tyler Gish pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing one run, one walk and striking out one.

Gish had two of Blair Oaks' three hits.

In the Falcons' defeat of Southern Boone, Gish threw 3 1/3 innings, allowing two hits, one earned run, four walks and two strikeouts in the win. In relief, Austin Veltrop forced a double-play with the bases loaded. Hunter Herigon threw a scoreless inning, allowing one hit.

Scott Farley had three hits and scored two runs, and Kaden Carlton had two hits and two RBI. Gish had a double and an RBI.

Blair Oaks (5-9) plays in the third-place game today.

The Jays (7-1) play Southern Boone today at noon.
