MU issues all clear after report of bomb threat

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri evacuated its Student Center and Memorial Union Tuesday evening after reports of a bomb threat.

An alert first posted at 7:23 p.m. on the university's website said University of Missouri Police and administrators are aware of reports of a bomb threat in the Student Center. The statement said the union building was evacuated as a precaution.

An announcement at 9:26 p.m. indicated the Student Center had reopened. At 9:44 p.m., Memorial Union was pronounced clear but MU officials reported it will remain closed and reopen Wednesday for normal business hours.

MU spokesman Christian Basi told The Columbia Daily Tribune that the threat was made through an anonymous phone call to staff at the Student Center.

Authorities continue to investigate.

Addendum: At around 10:10 p.m., MU Alert advised Columbia police were investigating a report of shots fired near campus. However, that report apparently turned out to be unfounded.
