Lions finish fifth in tourney

Calvary Lutheran won its pair of baseball games in the Calvary Lutheran/New Bloomfield Invitational, earning fifth place honors with a 6-4 win against St. Elizabeth that was called in five innings due to rain.

Hance Sommerer was the winning pitcher against Hornets, giving up four runs - all earned - on six hits in five innings of work. He was also 1-for-1 from the plate with two RBI.

Beau Monson was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and Jordan Duenckel walked three times and scored once.

In the first game, the Lions held on to a 4-3 win against Green Ridge. The Tigers scored two runs in the seventh to cut the lead, but Monson was able to finish off the game on the mound.

Monson started on the hill, striking out 15 in seven innings. He allowed three runs - two earned - on six hits.

Colin Bernskoetter was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Ray Eickmeyer had an RBI.

Calvary Lutheran (5-3) will play host to Newburg at 5 p.m. Monday.
