Lincoln track shines at Allgood Invitational

ROLLA - The Lincoln women's track and field team won a whopping eight events Saturday at the Dewey Allgood Invitational hosted by Missouri S&T, while the men's team captured six titles.

On the women's side, six of those eight wins were also good enough to meet provisional qualifying marks for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.

Those victories came from Janae Johnson in the 100-meter dash (11.89), Yanique Ellington in the 200-meter dash (23.99), Monique Thompson in the 800-meter run (2:11.76), Ladonna Richards in the 100-meter hurdles (13.71), Lovan Palmer in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.11) and from the 4x100-meter relay team of Kimberly Bailey, Keja Christie, Nadia Harriott and Johnson (45.77).

Lincoln's other wins came from Jhevere Hall in the 1,500-meter run (4:43.79) and Jonelle Campbell in the triple jump (38-2 3/4).

Adewumi Ademuwagun was the lone Blue Tiger to place in three events, as she was third in the long jump with a leap of 18-11 3/4, a provisional mark, fifth in the 100-meter dash (12.43) and eighth in the 200-meter dash (26.28).

Thompson was one of four Blue Tigers to place in two events, as she was also third in the 1,500-meter run (4:44.60). Others placing twice were Christie, who was second in the 100-meter dash (12.05) and 200-meter dash (25.25); Bailey, who was fourth in the 100-meter dash (12.42) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (25.70); and Harriott, who was second in the 100-meter hurdles (14.48) and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.42).

Also for Lincoln, Ebony Rose was fourth in the 400-meter dash (59.51), Akeeba Rose was seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (13:20.04) and Naomi Bryant was seventh in the triple jump (33-5 3/4).

Amother other female competitors, Missouri Southern's Melanie Bower (Linn High School) won the pole vault by clearing 12-8, a provisional qualifying mark.

Missouri S&T's Katlyn Meier (Vienna High School) was second in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:02.31 that was a provisional qualifying time and also good enough to break her own school record in the event. Meier was also part of the Lady Miners' 4x100-meter relay team that finished second (48.57) and the 4x400-meter team that finished second (3:58.26).

Missouri Southern's had three other area competitors take part, as Miranda Hill (Russellville High School) was third in the 3,000-meter run in 11:11.47, a provisional qualifying mark; Adelene Mengwasser (Chamois High School) was sixth in the 1,500-meter run (4:58.95); and Allie Heckemeyer (St. Elizabeth High School) was sixth in the high jump (4-10 1/2) and eighth in the long jump (17-5 1/4).

On the men's side, three of Lincoln's wins were good enough to earn provisional qualifying marks - Miguel Barton winning the 400-meter dash (47.64), Winston Edwards taking first in the 400-meter hurdles (53.25) and the 4x400-meter relay team of Roger Blake, Barton, Edwards and Riley winning in 3:11.80.

The Blue Tigers' other winners were Wesley Best in the 200-meter dash (21.49), Jeromia Riley in the 800-meter run (1:52.57) and Sedeekie Edie in the long jump (24-10). Edie was also second in the triple jump (47-3).

The 4x100-meter relay team of Barton, Best, Jakiel David and Khorey Spalding finished second in 41.03, also a provisional mark.

Other results for Lincoln included David finishing second in the 100-meter dash (10.87), Alva Henry coming in second in the 400-meter hurdles (55.66) and Orneldo Thomas placing second in the long jump (23-11 3/4).

Also, Hampton Mason was fourth in the discus (145-11) and eighth in the shot put (42-4 1/4), Owen Smith was sixth in the triple jump (44-0) and Darran Hunter was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (57.30).

Several area competitors also took part in the meet, with Missouri S&T's John Karsten (Blair Oaks High School) coming in second in the hammer throw (174-4), fourth in the shot put (46-6 3/4) and fifth in the discus (142-10).

Central Methodist's Dilan Simmons (Versailles High School) was second in the shot put (50-2) and fourth in the hammer throw (166-6); competing unattached, Adriel Hawkins (Jefferson City High School) was third in the 200-meter dash (22.44); Missouri Southern's Tom Zeilman (Fatima High School) was fourth in the 800-meter run (1:54.88) and a part of the Lions' 4x400-meter relay team that finished second in 3:15.76; and Westminster's Glen Teubner (Jefferson City High School) was fifth in the 3,000-meter run (9:39.85).
