College Softball: Bears sweep pair with Redbirds

NORMAL, Ill. - The Missouri State Bears swept a doubleheader with the Illinois State Redbirds on Saturday, giving head coach Holly Hesse career wins No. 699 and 700.

The Bears rolled to an 11-0 win in the opener in a contest shortened to five innings due to the run rule.

Sara Jones (Blair Oaks High School) came on as a pinch runner in the contest and scored a run for the winners.

Missouri State then beat Illinois State 4-0 in the nightcap as Erin Struemph racked up a season-high 10 strikeouts.

Struemph (St. Elizabeth High School) improved to 11-9 on the season by throwing a complete-game three-hitter. She walked four.

Missouri State is now 26-19 overall and 14-5 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Illinois State is 20-26, 11-8.
