Bulky trash pickup scheduled

Jefferson City residents living west of Jefferson Street will have an opportunity for bulky items of trash to be collected this week.

The city's annual spring clean-up begins at 5 a.m. today for the west side of the city. For residents living east of Jefferson Street, collection will begin April 27.

Accepted items include furniture, mattresses, large bulky items, televisions, microwaves and tied bundles of scrap material under 4 feet in length. Items that will not be picked up include trash bags and/or boxes of debris, appliances, tires, yard waste, lumber or guttering more than 4 feet in length, rocks, bricks, concrete, waste oil, car parts, acid batteries and loose piles of any materials.

Regular household trash should be deposited in the blue carts for pick-up on the usual collection day, as boxes and bags of trash will not be picked up as part of the bulky item collection.

The bulky item collection is for single-family residences, duplexes, tri-plexes and townhomes with trash service through Republic Services and located within the city limits. The service is provided as part of the city's solid waste agreement with the company.
