Your Opinion: Bill would hide environmental information

Dear Editor:

HB479 is a harmful piece of legislation that would prevent state agencies from releasing data and information to the public concerning animals and environmental protection. This involves issues like factory farming, captive hunting, and puppy mills. It's worrisome because information about practices that may be unethical or harmful will be hidden from the public eye.

To me, this sounds a lot like these businesses' way of saying that they have something to hide. Checks and balances exist in every industry for good reason. When I see pollution from factory farms in our water, I want to be able to access data to prove that we need better environmental regulations. I want protection for Missouri's residents and animals on our terms - not the terms of powerful corporations.

Keep the information in our hands and urge legislators to abandon HB479 before it's too late!
